BH16M Subsea Circular Connector — Overview
The BH16M is a 16-contact Bulkhead Male subsea circular connector designed for combined power and signal transmission in professional marine and oceanographic systems. Rated to 1,400 Bar design depth when mated, with a qualified hydrostatic pressure test of 1,400 Bar (20,300 psi), it delivers reliable connectivity across the full range of ROV, AUV, cabled observatory, and offshore instrumentation deployments.
The chloroprene rubber overmold provides a chemically resistant, thermally stable seal from -40°C to +60°C, while gold-plated copper alloy contacts maintain contact resistance below 10 mΩ across more than 500 wet mating cycles. The BH16M accepts both power and signal contacts simultaneously, allowing system designers to allocate pin functions according to their specific circuit requirements.

Key Design Features
- Bulkhead Male — panel-mount design, enabling clean chassis or housing integration with no external cable loops
- 16-contact circular configuration — flexible pin allocation for mixed power (600V / 10A per contact) and signal circuits in a single connector
- 1,400 Bar design depth (mated) with qualified hydrostatic pressure test to 1,400 Bar / 20,300 psi — operates at full ocean depth with substantial pressure safety margin
- 500+ wet mating cycles — qualified for repeated in-situ connection and disconnection in seawater without connector replacement
- Gold-plated copper alloy contacts — contact resistance < 10 mΩ, immune to chloride-induced oxidation at full ocean salinity
- Chloroprene rubber overmold — resists seawater, hydraulic oils, and biofouling; maintains elasticity from -40°C to +60°C without hardening or cracking
- Keyed mating interface — anti-rotation keying pin prevents mis-mating and contact damage during blind underwater mating operations
- Available from 1 unit — no minimum order quantity, standard 1–2 week lead time from stock

Why Choose the BH16M Over Generic Underwater Connectors
1. Chloroprene Rubber Body — Deep-Sea Grade Sealing
The BH16M uses a chloroprene rubber overmold that outperforms standard silicone or polyurethane in subsea environments. Chloroprene maintains elasticity from -40°C to +60°C, resists swelling in seawater and hydraulic oils, and retains its seal under thousands of pressure cycles — qualities that generic rubber connectors cannot match.
2. Gold-Plated Contacts — Zero Corrosion Tolerance
Every contact pin is gold-plated to keep contact resistance below 10 mΩ throughout the connector's service life. Unlike tin or nickel contacts that corrode within weeks of saltwater exposure, gold plating provides a thermodynamically stable interface that preserves both signal quality and power transmission across all operating conditions.
3. 1,400 Bar Design Depth — Industry-Leading Pressure Margin
The circular series design envelope is 1,400 Bar (20,300 psi) when mated — more than 14 times the rated operating depth of 4,350 psi (300 Bar PEEK variant). This pressure margin ensures that seals never operate near their failure point, providing long-term reliability even in variable-depth profiles and thermal expansion cycles.
4. Over 500 Wet Mating Cycles
Qualified for more than 500 mate/demate cycles in seawater without connector replacement. This is critical for ROV tooling, instrument servicing, and observatory maintenance programs where connectors must be connected and disconnected repeatedly in the field.
5. Available from Single-Unit Quantities
No minimum order quantity. Standard lead time of 1–2 weeks from stock, suitable for prototype testing, research vessel outfitting, and full production deployments.

Installation, Mating, and Maintenance Guidelines
Pre-Mating Inspection
- Inspect both connector faces under adequate lighting before every mating cycle — remove any debris, biological fouling, or salt crystal deposits from contact faces and locking surfaces.
- Check the chloroprene overmold for cuts, compression set, or delamination. Replace immediately if any such damage is found.
- Verify that all contacts are fully seated and free of bent pins or corrosion spots before attempting mating.
Mating Procedure
- Align the keying pin precisely before applying axial load — misaligned mating is the primary cause of bent contacts in circular connector systems.
- Apply firm, steady axial pressure until the locking sleeve engages fully. Never force a partially engaged connector.
- Rotate the locking sleeve clockwise to the fully locked position and verify positive lock before pressurising the system.
- For underwater mating operations: mate slowly to avoid hydraulic pressure spikes across the contact face.
Post-Recovery Maintenance
- Flush connector faces with fresh water immediately after recovery from saltwater — chloride deposits accelerate contact oxidation if left to dry on the surface.
- Apply a light coat of manufacturer-approved dielectric grease to contact faces and O-ring surfaces before storage if the connector will be unmated for extended periods.
- Store with protective dummy connectors (DC series) installed on any unmated bulkhead or inline ports to prevent ingress and physical damage during transit and storage.
Inspection Schedule
- Inspect contact surfaces and overmold integrity after every 50 mate/demate cycles or every 12 months, whichever occurs first.
- Replace connector if insulation resistance drops below 100 MΩ, contact resistance exceeds 50 mΩ, or visible damage to the chloroprene body is detected.
