The tether primarily provides strength for holding the balloon. Also it establishes electrical/optical connectivity between the airborne and ground ends. The ground end of the tether is connected to a winch drum through a rotary joint. We are developing different models of Tether Cables which are longer and can take higher load : these can be used for aerostat surveillance systems at international borders.
